LIZZIE NELSON Author and Artist
At the age of fiftysomething, I began writing poetry. Not because I'm a poet, but because I thought I had an awful lot to moan about. However, the majority of my poetry came out as humorous verse and I published Fair to Piddling: A Journey Through Midlife in Humorous Verse in 2020. This website became my umbrella for all my midlife wafflings but now, as I continue to explore other subjects, it will become my author site.
My next book is called Doggy Biscuits. When we moved to Chicago, we adopted a Schnauzer and a Schnorkie. Max and Griffin have added so much to the lives of my husband, daughter and myself because all our family is in England and being such a little family, just we three, they somehow completed us. They came from Almost Home Schnauzer Rescue in Indiana. I am donating 10% of proceeds from the sale of Doggy Biscuits to this organization.
Reviews for Doggy Biscuits have already come in, and I decided to bypass humans altogether and ask my favorite dogs to endorse it. We made an exception for Brian Bilston's cat because, duh! Brian Bilston!!!:
‘As a certified therapy dog, I recognize when something is good for the soul. Reading these poems made my mum laugh out loud, that’s therapy right there. Also - any chance of a hook up with Moira? I’m free most evenings.’
Stanley the Doodle Dog
‘I loved these poems. It’s just a shame they were all about dogs.’
Henry (Brian Bilston’s Cat)
'Gots our copy of “Doggy Biscuits” yesterday and Mum has alreadys read it cover to cover. Hers incessant chuckling is drivings me crazy. Thanks a lot @thedogpoet! Mum says dis book is a must haves for all pupper owners.'
Simon_von_schnauzer
‘This unique anthology portrays the philosophical interplay between the canine and human mindset as Max and Griff navigate modern life's conundrums. And SQUIRRELS!!’
Nosey Parker Bowles the Lurcher
Though near-sighted and completely unable to read, Fonzie’s been perusing Doggie Biscuits by @thedogpoet ! He says you should give a rapt browser to rhymes about her two schnauzers, whose tales and tails are sure to arouser. Griffin and Max love pooping and snacks, plan squirrel attacks; they’re blameless, shameless- so much to unpack. Dog Mom Lizzie has telepathic access to all of her dogs’ thoughts, within earshot and eyeshot of all the trouble they’ve wrought. They’re hungry, vulturine, and mundane; snarky, libidinous, and squirrel-insane. This box of biscuits is a sweeping review of all the oddball things our odd-squad doggos do.
Fonzie @improfessorschnitzel
‘Regular guys, Max and Griff, create a poetically humorous look at life’s best moments of goose poop, love, and twitchy critters to chase. I related to the dog park approach of screaming and rushing in hot. Keep at it, Boys!’
@MrHankSniffington, Schnauzer
'A chort-fest! I absolutely loved reading this book -- and will continue to do so, since it's one of those delights that you can keep dipping into for a giggle-fix...'
Amazon Review
Great, funny and lovable book filled with little poems and sweet, candid photos of Lizzie Nelson's beloved rescue dogs Max and Griffin as they enjoy their days together in the house, going on walks and share their dreams and thoughts with us readers.
Every dog-lover will love this book and if you are anything like me, you will laugh out loud at some of the observations of these great (in spirit) and very lovable dogs!
I purposely paced myself to read it in a couple of parts because I didn't want it to finish!
The illustrations and photos are a true depiction of life with dogs and just finish this already brillant book off!
